When you connect a second monitor to your PC, Windows 10 automatically sets that screen resolution to the resolution of the main screen. If both screens have the same resolution, this is not the problem.
However, if one of them has a higher resolution than the rest, it is the problem. If you do not handle the resolution for both monitors, there will definitely be a very bad image display. Besides, you also can not make the most of the resolution power of either screen.

Windows 10 allows you to set different resolutions for different monitors. The problem is that doing this is not easy.On Windows 10, Microsoft removed the Wallpaper and Display settings from the Control Panel application, and moved them to the new Settings app.

The Settings app is a simplified version of the basic settings, but it complicates the multi-monitor setup.

In order for different monitors to have different resolutions , you must follow the steps listed by AddictiveTips below:

Connect the second or third monitor to a PC or laptop. Turn it on and wait for your Desktop or Extend or Mirror on the new screen you just added. After connecting the monitors, it's time to adjust the resolution for them.

Open the Settings application and navigate to the System Setup group .

Select the Display tab and make sure that Windows 10 recognizes all connected monitors. Click the Identify button at the bottom of the Customize your display pane . This helps you distinguish between what screen 1 is and what screen 2 is.

Next, also at the Display tab , scroll down and click the Advanced display settings button .

On the Advanced display settings screen, select the monitor you want to change the resolution. You know what screen is screen 1 and which screen is screen 2 in the first step. However, if you skip that step, you can click the Identifybutton at this screen to identify your screens.

Select the screen you want to set the resolution to the other screen left. This is an important step because theresolution options at the Resolution drop-down menu will vary depending on the screen you selected. In the screenshot below, we chose screen 2.

Open the Resolution drop down menu and select a resolution of Windows 10 Recommended or higher for the screen.Click the Apply button .

When the confirmation dialog box appears, click the Keep button . The resolution of the screen you selected will be changed. The resolution of the other screen is not affected. If you do not want to save the changes, press the Revertbutton .

You can do this much easier on older versions of Windows 10. Cutting down on the Control Panel applet and the appearance of the new Settings app made simple Windows 10 tasks simple. Becomes more complicated. That is, the option you need is still there but you need to take more steps if you want to set different resolutions when in multi-monitor mode.
