The screen resolution change feature has been featured in the latest Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 (currently being released by Canadian carriers after Sprint and T-Mobile debuted in February). It looks like the Galaxy S8 also has a similar feature.
A recent leaked image shows the custom screen resolution of the Galaxy S8 with a simple slider. Users can choose from three levels for the screen resolution of the Galaxy S8, including:
- HD + (1480 x 720 pixels)
- FHD + (2220 x 1080 pixels)
- WQHD + (2960 x 1440 pixels)
Most likely the Galaxy S8's screen will be left at the highest resolution instead of the average on the Galaxy S7 with the recent Nougat update. However, if not required, users can reduce the screen resolution to reduce the power consumption of the device.
This feature also unknowingly revealed the 18.5: 9 aspect ratio of the Galaxy S8 (this screen is longer than the normal smartphone screen). Maybe this is why the screen resolution choices of the device have the "+" sign.
This feature has not been officially confirmed Samsung on the Galaxy S8. However, analysts believe that this is a feature that users appreciate over predecessor products. There is no reason for Samsung to abandon it.
