Samsung has just launched a dock called DeX. This is an accessory that turns the Galaxy S8 into a virtual machine. Microsoft has also implemented this idea with Windows Continuum (on the HP Elite X3 and Lumia 950).

According to Engadget , in theory, this idea is very convincing: the phone configuration is increasingly powerful, so why do not we turn it into a real computer? But after many trials and failures, the question arises as to whether anyone really likes this feature?

We are used to carrying computers everywhere, so the idea of using a desktop dock sounds pretty old. Also, when you bring your computer with you, you will want to carry both a keyboard and mouse for convenient use. It is so entangled, and the dock can only be placed next to a computer screen. At this point, could it compete with mini PCs on the market like the Intel Compute Stick? (Which costs $ 120 at the lowest version).

Furthermore, you may not have enough money to buy DeX. It would be another story if DeX was presented with the Galaxy S8. Although Samsung has yet to announce an official price, the leaked source says it could cost approximately $ 150 ($ 3.4 million), not a cheap price for a dock.

Basically, DeX takes advantage of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM on the Galaxy S8. This makes it possible to run multitasking most of the basic tasks. In addition, Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to optimize the Android office suite.

DeX seems to be a good idea for Samsung but still quite inconvenient for the user. Seems like Samsung can not answer the question why we need a phone with computer-like experience.
