Not that the new Galaxy S8 was launched nor the Galaxy S7 launched a year ago, the most popular Samsung phone in the US today is the Galaxy S5.

The Android Authoriry page citing latest figures from Kantar World Panel analysts said that the most popular Samsung model in the US as of February was the Galaxy S5.

Kantar 's global consumer research director , Laure Guenveur, says this is quite a surprise with a phone launched more than three years ago.

Data show that Galaxy S5 currently accounts for 15.6% of US users, Galaxy S7 and S6 respectively reached 11.5% and 11.4% respectively. Particularly the S7 Edge ranks fourth with 5.8% of users. This is also Samsung's flagship smartphone model for the past year since the Galaxy Note 7's scandal related to battery explosion.

According to Kantar , in the past 12 months, 28% of Samsung owners have upgraded their phones. Just over half of them upgrade to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. A note noted by Kantar , owners of older Galaxy models tend to buy the latest Galaxy model than the owners of recently released Galaxy devices.

Kantar 's data may be a big surprise for many but not hard to understand in the saturated mobile market today. When new smartphone models hit the market, and if users own high-end smartphones full of essential features and new, of course, they will never think of buying the smartphone. Newer model smartphones if nothing really attracts.
